PSL University, in the framework of its partnership with UCL Grand Challenges, University College London, is opening a call for applications to students and young researchers. PSL and UCL invite you to participate in the interdisciplinary conference-workshop "Creative differences: Self-Morphing through Physics, Design and Architecture" organised by the Automorph network on the occasion of the London Design Biennale in June 2023.

A brief CV.

A brief description of the applicant's interest and motivation for the topic.

A brief description of the idea of a self-forming material, a vision of integrating self-formability into a future environment, or any other idea related to reactive material. Candidates are free to express this idea in a scientific form, an image, a short video, a text, etc... (2 pages maximum). We expect sparkling concepts, fun ideas, interesting stories - not necessarily fully solved solutions. Be creative!
SELECTION PROCESS
The jury, which is very interdisciplinary, will be made up of members of the Automorph network, and representatives of both institutions (PSL-UCL).

Automorph is an international interdisciplinary network working on active shape-changing materials. The network has been invited to exhibit its work at the London Design Biennale, which runs from 01-28 June 2023 at Somerset House.
The exhibition will showcase a new way of designing objects: instead of assembling passivated materials, the internal forces are programmed so that the materials take on the desired shape on their own, mimicking the morphogenesis of the living. The result is elegant and bio-inspired active structures, developed in particular thanks to the Beauté.s Chair (PSL-L’Oreal). The exhibition will thus bring interdisciplinary research with multiple applications to reach the general public.
The interdisciplinary conference workshop "Creative Differences" will extend this reflection on the 5th of June (presentation by experts from various disciplines) and on the 6th of June (a practical hands-on workshop for a reduced number of participants) in Somerset House. In this context, PSL University, in partnership with UCL Grand Challenges, is launching a call for applications open to students and young researchers (Master, PhD, Postdoc) from all disciplines. Applicants are expected to demonstrate creativity, through their disciplinary prism, in imagining applications and uses of automorphism, particularly in response to issues related to the sustainable cities, transformative technology, and climate crisis, a number of key themes at the heart of the partnership between PSL and UCL Grand Challenges.
